Kingfishers nesting - Alcedo atthis

bullet1 Kingfisher Bathing perch

This perch is a few yards up stream from the nest.  They always stop here on the way back to the nest and call out to their partner.  If the coast is clear they go to the perch under the nest and wait for the other to leave the nest before they enter with the food.

Here is the female (it has a brown under-beak), with a stickleback on her way back to feed her young.

The on leaving the nest they fly into the water to wash themselves and then reland on this perch to preen themselevs before going off to find more food.
