Kingfishers nesting - Alcedo atthis

bullet1 Kingfisher nest

The nest is in a sandy bank above a small stream.  What is even more amazing is that the stream not only takes the run off from a major Trunk road, but further upstream it runs through an industral estate and often gets poluted by feul oil and other spills.  Just as they started to build their nest it ran white with an oil spill, so it was on phone the Environment Agency at 06.30 on Saturday morning.  They came out but failed to find the source of the spill. Luckily it has no effect.

Our life has been transformed as we sit in our hastily constructed hide for hours waiting for them to return.

Another fish for the hungry young. You can see the nest hole in the top left hand corner.
